FAQ

Where does the data come from?

Tides and currents come from NOAA CO-OPS. Marine forecasts and alerts come from the National Weather Service. Radar comes from NOAA nowCOAST/MRMS. Wave and swell data comes from Open-Meteo.

Why do seas say “Choose a coastal wave reference”?

Wave models cover open coastal water, not every bay, river or inland lake. If your location is not near a modeled point, NautiWeather asks you to pick a nearby coastal wave reference so the seas numbers reflect real nearby water rather than a guess.

How is my location used?

Only on your device, to find nearby waters and stations. The app then requests conditions for those stations or approximate coordinates from the public data providers above. There is no account and nothing is tracked. See the Privacy Policy.

Can I rely on it for navigation?

No. NautiWeather is guidance only and is not a substitute for official NOAA/NWS forecasts, local knowledge or good seamanship. Conditions can change quickly — the captain is always responsible for the decision to go.

Does it work offline?

Yes, partly. Your last briefing is cached on the device, so you can view it without a signal. It is marked with the time it was fetched; it will not update until you are back online, and radar and alerts may be out of date.
